The legendary glazed curd snack first appeared more than 70 years ago and quickly became a favourite breakfast treat and snack—perfect both at the table and on the go. THE HISTORY OF KĀRUMS
The history of the Kārums curd snack begins in the late 1940s, when the first glazed curd bars were produced in Riga, 2 Valmieras Street. Initially made entirely by hand, production gradually became mechanized in 1955, with the transition completed by the 1970s.
In 1993, the company “Rīgas Piensaimnieks” was established at the same Valmieras Street address. A year later, in 1994, history was made: the most beloved curd snack in Latvia was born, together with its cheerful little mascot—the crow.
Another major milestone came in 2020, when SIA “Rīgas Piensaimnieks” merged with AS “Rīgas piena kombināts.” A brand-new, modern factory was opened in Riga at 180 Bauskas Street, and Kārums reemerged with a fresh, updated look. That year also marked the return of the iconic crow to the packaging.
For over 20 years, Kārums has proudly supported the Latvian Song and Dance Festival, one of the nation’s most cherished traditions. And in 2025, to celebrate the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival, we introduced a special collection of clothing and souvenirs created for our most passionate and dedicated fans.
